The very first race of this event was run in 1911 and then the Indy Car Series came much later, starting in 1996. It is of course a 500 mile race, which translates to 804 kilometers and is a 200 lap event. The race has undergone some name changes in the last one hundred years, but has kept to the same basic racing that has made this such a successful venture. A.J. Foyt, Al Unser and Rick Mears share the honor of the drivers with the most wins at four each, while Penske Racing has the most for the teams at fifteen.
Watch the upcoming race to see Team Penske, which includes Helio Castroveves, Will Power and Ryan Briscoe race for the title along with Target Chip Ganessi Racing with Dario Franchitt, Scott Dixon and Townsend Bell. For the Fazzt Race Team we have Alex Tagliani and Bruno Spengler. Last, we have Rahal Letterman Racing with Graham Rahal.
